Welcome to Chalk Hill Wines
“An outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity”
— James Halliday AM, Australia’s foremost wine authority and critic
The Chalk Hill heritage started with the arrival of John Harvey to Adelaide in 1839 when there were around 6,000 people living in Adelaide.
John was the second person to plant grapevines north of Adelaide, preceding the birth of the Barossa and Clare wine growing regions.
Six generations and 185 years later, the Harvey family continue their grape growing and winemaking heritage in McLaren Vale with Chalk Hill.
A Collection of Distinction
Chalk Hill and Alpha Crucis Wines
Chalk Hill is dedicated to crafting small-batch wines that stand apart since 1964.
Rooted in six generations of the Harvey family’s devotion to viticulture, our estate spans six exquisite vineyards across the picturesque McLaren Vale. Each vine contributes to our exceptional portfolio of distinctive wines, reflecting the unique character and quality of our region.
Wines under the Alpha Crucis label are reserved for the best wines we produce. Only after meeting a consistent standard of excellence do grapes and wines get promoted from the Chalk Hill to the Alpha Crucis brand.
